I woke up at about 3 AM. There is 2 messages on my phone from Miss C. It appears she had a run in with reception when she left last night. I laugh because she says she told him "Fuck You". "Hahahahaha".... So much attitude, I love it. It is Saturday morning and there are a few people about in the streets. They must be heading home from a night out. I get a message on Facebook from my sister asking me to try Skype with them. They had just set it up on their TV and they wanted to see if it works. It works, was good to see my nieces too. I spend a couple of hours writing the First impressions story and I could hear some kind of a hissing noise. I try to figure out where it is coming from but after my investigation didn't solve it i assumed it was the power point. My adapter doesn't quite sit snug in the socket. I finish my story and go back to bed.
I wake up again just before 8:00 AM. not long after the hotel phone rings. "Who would be calling me here" I thought. Maybe it was Miss C?. I answer and it is my Mum. I talk to her for about 10 minutes and she tells me that my nieces entire kindergarten class is following my trip too now. Talk about unneeded pressure. I realise I am out of cigarettes. I look out the window and it is snowing. WOW!!! this is awesome. I open my window and snow lands on the windowsill. Its soft and fragile and melts quickly. I get dressed, put on my jacket and beanie and head out in the snow to buy cigarettes. WOW!!! It is my first time walking in snow. It's a strange sensation. You can feel it land on you but it does not drench your clothes like rain does. It continues to build up on you. I buy cigarettes and return to the hotel. I head back to my room and I take some photos from my hotel window. The cars parked outside are covered in snow and I wonder how people will get into them. I am missing Miss C.
I start to get hungry once again I missed breakfast. I look in the guest directory that they have in all hotel rooms and on Saturday room service does not open until 12:00 PM. Ok, then I will just go down to the restaurant and have lunch there. I send some messages to my friend Sami and to Miss C while I wait until midday and then make my way down to the restaurant. I come out of the lift and head over to reception to find out where the nearest ATM is located. I only have 8 lei left on me after buying the cigarettes. There is one just outside the doors of the hotel. Awesome, I think and I try to use it but it out of service. I head back in, tell them it is not working and ask where the next nearest one is. He gives me some directions, I don't pay much attention, and then I ask if the restaurant will take card. The guy tells me "Yes, and if you are eating in the hotel restaurant I can charge it to the room". "Awesome" I reply. As I am about to turn away, the guy says to me "Listen, I wanted to talk with you for a moment". "Ok" I say and I am assuming it had something to do with Miss C. He tells me that Miss C refused to show him her ID when she was leaving. He says this procedure is for my own protection. I smirk, because I find the whole situation amusing. I tell him "I understand, I will speak with Miss C and have her show him her ID next time she comes, but she did give you the correct details". He is happy with my response and makes some chit chat. I then head into the restaurant.
The restaurant is small but has nice decor, there are lots of wooden shield with emblems on them and the names of Swiss cities. It is called 'Mica Elvetie'. I just assume it must be Swiss influenced. The waiter shows me to a table. The waiter speaks very good English and is thorough with explaining everything to me. The menu is in Romanian with English underneath. I order the sirloin steak, with boiled potatoes and a Coca Cola. As i sit waiting for my food I think about Miss C. She told me that on Saturdays she does shopping with her mum and helps to clean the house, so I did not really expect to see her. A waiter comes and ties a bib around my neck. In the corner there are 2 big freestanding drums and some speakers. I assume they must have entertainment here sometimes.
About 5 minutes later (it was about 15 minutes total wait), the meal arrives. It is smaller then I thought it would be. It is served on a wooden plate with partitions. In the biggest partition is some kind of heated stone which the steak sits on top of continuing to sizzle. Down the side are 3 smaller partitions with 3 different condiments, and underneath the stone is a smaller empty partition. The potatoes come on a separate plate. They are buttery and sprinkled with what I assume is parsley. I take the steak from the stone and put it in the empty partition and slice it up. It is rare, perfect. I take a slice and with my knife spread the first sauce (red) onto the slice of steak. It is a tomato relish with a slight hint of chili. It's very nice. Next I try the potatoes, they are soft and crumbly. Very delicious. I decide to try the yellow sauce at the top of the plate, It is a curry sauce, it is nice too but I prefer the tomato relish. In the middle there was white and blue sauce, it was more solid then the others. It was made with some sort of cheese. I wrap a slice of steak around the cheese mixture and taste it. WOW!!!... it was very nice. I finish the meal taking turns with the sauces and the potatoes and order another Coca Cola.
I finish the second Coca Cola and the waiter asks me if I would like dessert. I say "No, I will just get the check, thank you" and he leaves. He comes back with the check, it was about 60 lei (between $15 and $20 AUD). I tell him I will charge it to the room and leave the remaining 8 lei in my pocket as a tip. I head back upstairs.
Once in my room, I decide to write the story of my meeting with Miss C. About 1:30 PM my phone buzzes it's a message from Miss C. We send a few messages back and forth and she tells me she is cleaning now and we will speak later. I tell her "Ok" and I continue writing. At about 3:00 PM there is a knock on the door. It's housekeeping. I yell out "1 second". I only had boxer shorts and a T Shirt on, so I fumble through the pile of clothes in the cupboard for a pair of shorts. I answer the door "Can we clean the room?". "Yes" I respond and let them in. I continue to write while they make the bed, clean the bathroom and replenish the mini bar, before leaving. Recollecting the day with Miss C made me miss her a lot. I hope she doesn't read this because she will think I am soft, but it's true, she left her mark on me indeed. I decide I needed a beer, fortunately the cleaners put 2 in the fridge. I crack the Ursus and finish off the story.
It's around about 6:00 PM and I am thinking about food. I have a sudden urge to eat some pizza.I Google pizza in Bucharest. There is a pizza hut not far from me. I am too tired to be bothered with walking there in the snow, so I decide to try and order online and have it delivered. I go to the website and as you might expect it's all in Romanian. I try to translate it by hitting the translate button on Google chrome but it only translates a few sections. I try to navigate around by going to every section and see where it takes me. It was not working so I decide.... Fuck it... and order the chicken schnitzel from room service. It arrives fairly quickly and open the second beer, turn on the TV and eat my dinner.
After dinner I remembered something Miss C told me when I was dropping ash on the bed. I had already posted the story so I thought I would add it here. She said to me "There is a saying...It is, we don't fuck in your ashtray, so please don't ash in our bed". Very funny. I was tired after finishing the food and beer so I decided I would get some sleep. It was only about 6:30 or 7:00 PM on a Saturday night, but fuck it, I needed to try to catch up on some sleep anyway.
The day may sound uneventful but these stories take a few hours each to write and as I was behind a little it was good to be able to get them up to date. I am hoping I will have more pictures to add soon, and hopefully get to see Miss C again very soon.
