I had a shower and got ready and we left for sightseeing at about 10:30 AM. We stopped at a beach and had a bit of a walk. The beaches in Wales are very different to the beaches in Australia. There is no sand, the beaches are pebbles. There are also no waves. After leaving the beach, we drove along the coast and absorbed the amazing views. It started to rain while we were driving. We stopped at a few places and took some photos.
Along the coast there is a tiny little chapel where a monk used to live. They still hold services there sometimes. It is tiny, it's just cool to see. The Everton vs Manchester City match was on the radio. Paul is an Everton supporter and when we heard they had taken a 1-0 lead we both cheered.
After a few minutes in the chapel, it was off to Conwy Castle. The radio signal dropped in and out and we weren't able to listen to the game anymore. The castle overlooks the sea and there are some fantastic views from the top of the towers.
We spent about an hour wondering around all the staircases and hallways in the castle in the rain and then Paul had a coffee in the souvenir shop while I bought some souveneirs. After Paul finished his coffee we walked around Conwy and went to a fish and chip shop to get some food.
The fish and chip shop was up an alleyway and there was a window with a counter. Hanging by the hatch over the window was a bell that you ring for service. We rang the bell and a guy came and took our order. Paul ordered a fish and chips and I got a burger and chips.
We stood in the rain and waited about 15 minutes for the food. Once it came we took cover under a tunnel and ate the food. There was a group of 3 young guys also under the tunnel eating. The burger was not good but the chips were good. Paul said his fish was really good though. We ate then made our way back to the car.
Paul told me to make a decision. There were 2 places I could go, Caernarfon Castle or Betws-Y-Coed because we wouldn't have time to do both. I chose Caernarfon Castle as it was raining and at least we would have some cover. So off we went.
It was about a half an hour drive to Caernarfon Castle and it takes you by Angelsey which is an island. The scenery is amazing. Caernarfon Castle is the site where Prince Charles was annointed as the Prince of Wales. When we arrived there was nobody at the ticket gate so we just walked in without paying.
Caernarfon Castle is about twice the size of Conwy Castle. We explored the castle for about an hour and then walked around the town centre for awhile. It's a nice little town with lots of pubs. The six nations final Between Wales and England was on that afternoon and there were quite a few people making their way to the pubs.
We headed back to the car and drove home. When we got home, I wrote on the blog a little and talked to my Aunt Sue. About 6:00 PM, Paul made a fantastic stir fry and went to get a few drinks for us. I had 4 beers while I wrote and watched TV. It was close to midnight when I went to bed.
